I've been living here in Eagle River for 29 years and can't remember a fall like this one. High water temperatures 2 1/2 weeks ago and now the bottom has fallen out. Today the water temperatures are 53 to 49 degrees depending on what lake you are on with North Twin being at 57 degrees and in turnover.

This morning the temperatures were 21 degrees and currently 31 degrees. High for the day is supposed to be 32 degrees. We had a good dusting of snow and winds are blasting 20+ miles an hour with gusts up to 34 miles out of the northwest. We are supposed to be in the 30's to low forties for the next 4 days.

The live bait bite is getting strong for both musky and walleye. However locationally something curious has occured. The H2O temps have dropped so quickly that the weeds in many lakes have not discolored and died. They are still bright green. Consequently the fish, particularly walleyes are still using them. Many lakes have this going on, the Eagle Chain and North Twin are two of them.

If this doesn't slow down the end could be here soon. Time will tell, but if your are planing a last trip up north it should be soon. I think H2O temps will be in the 40 pretty soon.

Dress warm and head north the time is now.
