I've been doing a lot of walleye and smallmouth bass fishing recently. Today I had some great guests from Indiana in the boat, we fished the Chippewa Flowage. The morning started out with lots of rain and wind, and it got rainier and windier as the morning went along. At least we didn't have to worry about anyone else fishing our spots, we were the only boat nutty enough to be out there. We did manage to catch a few walleyes and smallmouths in the rain, walleyes ran between 14 to 18 inches. Wood, rocks and weeds all held a few fish this morning.
After lunch at a resort we greeted to a dry but really windy afternoon. Fishing wood/rock areas produced some smallies, one being 18 1/2 inches. Weed spots gave up 3 or 4 more walleyes all smaller 12 to 14 inchers. Jigs and leeches proved to be the best bait.
Muskies have been going good lately too, we've managed to pick up a few nice fish in the last couple of weeks. Bucktails and surface baits have been hot. Water temps are in the mid 70's.
Good luck and good fishing,
Jim Stroede
