With water temperatures lingering in the low 70's, fish behavior is not what it typically would be at this time of year. But, with that said, Lake Mendota has had a bit of a Perch bite in the weeds on the west side of the lake. Bluegill action continues to be slow on Lake Mendota. Smallmouth Bass have been spotty, with some action reported on the bars in 14-25' of water. Lake Monona Bluegill action has been decent, with some good numbers coming off of Olbrich Park, Hudson Park, Wyldehaven, and the rock pile in front of Squaw Bay. Look for fish to be most active in 12-30' of water. Some Muskies have been caught by trolling crank baits in 20-30' of water. Lake Waubesa Bluegills have been slower, but are running a bit larger than on Lake Monona. Look for fish in 12-20' of water off of Hog Island, Rockford Heights, in front of Babcock Park, or down by Christies. Some Muskies have been reported over the weeds on the south end of the lake throwing a variety of lures. Lake Kegonsa has on occassion been producing some nice Perch and big Bluegills.

Went drifting for gills on Monona Sunday 8/2. We found some on the west shore out of Olin in 35 FOW, down 15 to 20ft. We had to sort a bunch, but went home with the makings of a nice fish fry. Leaf worms on a bare hook is what worked for us. It was windy out Sunday, and took 1/2 to 3/4 ounce to keep it down in the zone. Later D.W.

Fished Brearly Bar today: leeches in 15 FOW; on a weed edge; caught a monster cat (for me anyways) of 26 inches; also caught a 15 inch cat and a 12 inch walleye and a 10 inch smallie; all catch and release; picked up a whitebass trolling back, so have something to fry up tonight.
