Hello fishing friends, July Walleye fishing in the western basin is doing very well. Pick your application drifting or trolling the bite has been good and the customers are happy. There have been a number of small Walleye caught each day but that tells us that there is a school of Walleye that will be catch-able at 15 in. + by this fall and in 2010. Some of those fish are legal size and just to be on the safe side we limit our fish to 15 1/2 in to allow for shrinkage by the time we get back to Wild Wings marina. I do caution that the ODNR and Division of Wildlife have been randomly checking boats at the dock for size. The cost for an undersized fish is $125.00 per fish and you don't want that to ruin your day!! ( Location ) has been various the schools are constantly moving and we have been fishing from the Ohio ? Michigan line to the Ohio / Canadian line in the deeper water of 32 ft of water. Also a three day bite at Crane Creek in 22 ft to even K, L, J can for few trips. It really tests your ability to think should I go 18.5 miles to get fish or run out to K can 2 miles away and save the travel time. ( Application ) has been 12 in. Gold blade weapons with circle hooks , red and chartreuse beads. # 5 blade. Bottom bouncers are 24 in. gold or fire tiger # 6 blade with double circle hooks tipped with a juicy night crawler. We use 2, 3, or 4 oz football sinkers or bottom bouncers depending on the wind and waves. The downside is our favorite spot as it is the less fished side by the customers and gets the application under the boat and out of the way. Trolling has been good also on those lazy days of summer with no wind and waves. We use # 40 Jet divers combined with 5 ft leaders and Rapalla F-7 or J-7 fire tiger, perch or shad. Combined with Michigan Stingers set at 90 ft. and 100 ft in 30 ft. of water. The cooler temperatures have kept the schools of Walleye in the western basin and a few of our Captains that moved down east in early July have moved back to take advantage of this good bite for Walleye. Call now to book your favorite dates 888-811-8077 or 419-262-9400 cell. Great fishing on Lake Erie. Capt. Ron
