Our roller coaster weather has made swimming and fishing a challenge this past week. A warm start of last week brought out the mayfly hatch on Kakagi (Crow) Lake along with many swimmers and even some tubing activity. By middle of last week the north winds were coming down from Hudson Bay bringing in some cold winds and rain with lows near 37 degrees and daytime highs in the mid 50's. The weather settled down this weekend and kids are swimming again. Lake temperatures are mostly running in the low 60's, but expecting they could climb rather quickly if our summer weather can stay here for awhile.

Lake Trout started the week on a decent bite, but not quite to the deeper holes yet. The winds and cold and perhaps the mayfly hatch have the Lake Trout slowed down slightly the past few days, expecting they should be back on a good bite pretty soon. Most of the groups in during the next few weeks will be jigging for the Lake Trout - hoping for bright sun and light winds to make it easier to hold on top of the fish. Jean and I fished the Lake Trout for a couple hours last week - 2 misses and 2 catches 3 lbs and 8 lbs. Two of our hits were on drops, one on the way up and one jumped out of the water to hit Jean's lure :-)

Walleye were a struggle most of the week, a Cedartree boat found good Walleye action on Friday.

Bass action is starting to migrate to the rocks, but still seeing bass on spawning beds on Kakagi. Jessie, Robinson, South Narrows lake and LOTW Whitefish Bay all had some good bass fishing action this past week.

Muskie action started the week looking very promising and a 44" tiger muskie was caught on Cedartree. A few Muskie fishing boats are in this coming week 36", 38" and 46" reported already along with a few smaller Muskies. When it comes to Muskie fishing almost doesn't count but a 50" Muskie was "almost" caught today from LOTW.

Northern Pike have been the most exciting action the past week and the Northerns don't seem to care much about weather compared to most of the other fish. Approximately twenty five Northerns were caught between 32" and 39" and a whole bunch more of the smaller Pike were entertaining many of the children in camp the past week.

Dock action mainly consisted of smaller perch and rock bass this week, with the frequent hook in a huge log fish! When the lake warms a little more Jenny will need to use her goggles and dive to retrieve a few lures. :-)

Both Amy and Jenny are starting some boat driving lessons this summer, so far we are working on basics - starting the engine, driving forward in a straight line and in a circle. I'm thinking it might take me a few more years before I am ready to have them park a boat at the dock. :-)

The past week was more about quality time with family and friends then it was fishing. Father & son, father & daughter and whole family adventures to portage lakes. Children playing together day and night. Friends fishing together on big lakes and occasionally the docks. Family movie nights and even dance lessons in the lodge! Even with the uncooperative weather, Boreal Bay was a great place to be last week!
